Almost one year after I swore I wouldn't come back I did, and unfortunately it was the same result. Greens were great and if it wasn't for dead spots I would have given a 5 rating. Fairways and tees were uncut and shaggy where there was grass, but many bare and dead spots exist, 2 fairways were used as sod farms with just exposed bare earth left. Roughs were plain horrible, either bare spots or it was so thick you couldn't even find your ball. Many bunkers washed out with only hardpan remaining. Needless to say I won't be back

Disappointing is all I can say. Apparently back in July and August they lost a lot of turf to disease. Many dead areas or no turf at all still exist on greens, tees, fairways and roughs. I had to roll my ball almost every shot to find some kind of turf. They are also cart path only to avoid losing more turf. I would recommend playing elsewhere until they get this course back.

$45 on Golfnow.com is a great deal for this course (rack rate $79/weekday morning). No one there...got out early...played in 4 hrs even waiting for the group in front of us. Nice day, though, so didn't mind the wait. Course is in the best shape I've ever seen it. #6 fairway is always in bad shape--but not today! A little wet in places due to overnight rain, but not bad. Tee boxes, fairways, and greens all in good shape. Doing a lot of construction surrounding the course--building more houses--so not as aesthetically pleasing as in the past, but still a nice course. Staff exceptionally pleasant and welcoming. Great lunch--Soup and 1/2 Salad for $7! Can't beat that!

Should have never gone back. The driving range was terrible, the greens were aerated and covered in dirt. When trying to hit employees never stop what they are doing. We have had enough after trying to give it one more try. Tried to talk to the GM when we were done and he actually crossed his arms and said how great they were. The whole place needs to be trained better! To many courses around to go back to this one.

First, the good news. The staff is very nice, friendly, and accommodating from the Pro Shop to the Starter to the restaurant staff to the cart guys. They really make you feel special. For the bad news, unfortunately, I still don't understand why people rave about this course...maybe my expectations are just higher. Every green on this course was in bad shape with bare spots that have been painted over to make it look green. Additionally, the fairways are simply not in that good of shape...bare spots, thin grass, huge divots, soggy/wet areas, crabgrass, and burned edges. This is not a premier or pristine course--it is well worn and in bad need of some TLC and attention to get it in shape to charge $79-$99. It simply isn't worth that rack rate (and I don't mind paying a high rack rate as long as I get the value). Even at the $55 Golfnow.com rate, I didn't see the value. We had with us someone who had never played the course before but heard "rave reviews." He shared he was disappointed in the condition of the course. I still stand by my previous reviews that there are other courses within an hour which are in better condition, more reasonably priced, and more interesting layout.

I have not played Lake Presidential since it first opened back in 2008. Wow, what a treat! This course has really turned into an amazing first class golf course. Everything about the course is fantastic, from the conditions, to the free apples on the course (very nice touch, never seen this before), to the staff. This is the most expensive course in the region, and you get your monies worth. Can't wait to go back.

This course is in the best shape of any of the other local courses I have played this year, played about 15 others so far this year. Anyway always a challenging course with a very friendly staff. Free range balls & GPS with a pretty decent pro shop and a clearance rack with some great deals. The food is very good but is kind of slow and they now sit out infused waters that is nice and free. I would guess this will be the top course in the area this year because it is well on its way to perfection in the next couple of week. I enjoy this course much or than Bulle Rock

For $49, was a good deal. Course in pretty good shape, with the exception of #5 and #18 fairways which are chewed up, crabgrass (#5), and what looks like black mold (#18). Greens are really fast and tough to hold on your approach shot. Mixed reviews on the bunkers--some were fluffy and raked, others were hardpan. They had a 2 hr frost delay, but did a shotgun for those early tee times. By the time we got there for our 11:10, they were on time. Kudos to the course mgt for being flexible and moving people onto the course.

We had a special coupon and paid $45 vs. the regular $79 rate, so it was a good deal. I've seen the rave reviews on this course and simply don't get it! It's a decent layout and the course conditions are average, which equates to a $45-$55 rate, not the $79-$99 charged. The course looks beautiful from afar, but you get to the fairways and there are a lot of unfilled divots, some dirt spots, big patches of crabgrass on #5 (I made note of it because it was so obvious), and #18 had big bare spots in the fairway. The greens, though, were in pretty good shape except for two greens which had bare spots. The restaurant on site has great food and reasonably priced. I agree with one of the others who reviewed this course--I do believe there are nicer courses in the area than Lake Presidential for the money.

I played Lake Presidential again for $79 plus tax on Monday September 3rd, Labor Day. I am not sure where some of the players that reviewed the course play, but Lake Pres does not compare to the premium courses around DC Metro Area. This place used to be in pristine conditions about 2years ago. You cannot compare Lake Presidential and Northwest Park Golf Course. I can play these courses for less but with much better greens, fairways bunkers and layout. Lake Pres has one the worse fairways, hole # 5 has been infected by crabgrass, no grass around the bunkers and patches of dirt on most of the greens. The dainage system is a joke. It was a real disappointment. We were surprise when one the workers came to us and apologize to us, concerning the state of the course. The Bunkers were a complete mess, with no sand. Even the lake around the course is filthy and covered by some green stuff. If I’m paying premium fees, I expect premium greens not some landfill to putt on. If given the choice to play at Lake Pres for $35, I’ll take a pass. Overall, course is over rated and overpriced. Food was pretty good and they have new golf carts; they were three days old. Most of the staff were courteous, the Marshall was rude, he told us that we were 20 min behind and we must either skip one hole and play it again later or wait at the club house and allowed the group behind us to pass. However, we were playing hole # 9 and the group ahead of us were teeing off on # 10. So how does he want us to skip a hole. Please somebody help me out.

Got a great deal on golfnow for 45 a person. Don't now what has happened to the
greens (fungus?) but most of them had fans blowing to move the air. They were very patchy. Was also some patchy tees & fairway areas. This place was pristine back in May. Guess they had some issues with the drought? Would defintely come back though, they will straighten it out

Played on a Monday and it wasn't too busy. Staff was very courteous. I have never played here before and they said it was tough, I found that out the hard way. I just couldn't believe they didn't have some type of hole layout on the cart, or the score card, or anywhere really. It made it that much harder since I was hitting blind on many of my shots. Still had fun though.

Conditions were very good, greens fast, very tough. Fairways were a little rough from a lot of play, plus there was a kids tournament or something so I saw some very, very deep divots. It's a shame people don't teach their kids to fix them, especially on a course this nice.

I would definitely recommend this course, but make sure you bring some type of hole layout with you or research it before hand. You don't want to be like me and hit what you think is a great shot until you realize it actually went 30 feet down in a ravine full of brush! Not sure if this place is better than Bulle Rock, but it is definitely close.

Word has it that Lake Presidential was rated #2 Public Golf Course in Maryland...and I believe it. This was my second time around here and I really love this Golf Course. Starts with a great Practice Area, Staff was courteous and helpful, All Bentgrass Tee's , Green's and Fairways and a Championship Layout. Course showed some wear apparently from lots of play as of late, but still one of my favorites. I would suggest that you play the proper Tee's, this course is long and demanding the farther you go back

This is my second time playing Lake Presidential and I was not impressed with this round.

Review: During our round, we were notified we would start on the 10th. We noticed ground crews working on the greens, which was not something we wanted to see. For the most part, the course looked dry and a bunch of damage on the greens. A small golf tournament was in front of our group, which slowed everything down. At one point a Marshall came along to monitor the golf tournament and we asked what was going on. He said, the Pro Shop had received multiple calls asking why the slow play. Its a challenging golf course without the slow play.

Food & Drink Service: Great Service. I strongly suggest, getting something to eat when you finish your round at the club house.

I play this course several times a year and it is always in the best shape of all the public courses even Bulle Rock. It is unfortunate that the green on hole #1 gets very little sun due to the trees but it still plays well and rolls perfect. Recently the lack of rain as dried up a lot of courses, but not here. Lake is beautiful and well maintained because of one of the top crews in Maryland. They also had a great BBQ deal there as well, 2 sandwiches and sides for $11 cooked to order. If you look at online tee time sites you can find great deals here and play for half price. The course is long and difficult for novice golfers so if your not that good 20-30 hcp, play the forward tees or you will have a very bad day here. As for the stronger players and long hitters, they have all you can handle so enjoy.

So I'm out here with some friends and on #5 my foot slips into an unmarked hole about 2 1/2 feet deep. I hurt myself pretty bad and get assisted back to the cart. Marshal comes by on #7 and we flag him down, I tell him what happened, he saw me with my shoe and sock off in pain and says to me ok I'll get someone to fill it and drives off. Well I can't stand it anymore so I head back in on #8 (I still have not played just in the cart) Once I get back to the pro shop I limb in and tell the Assistant Pro what happened, he replied oh yeah I heard about it. (at that point I was thinking why would you not send someone to check on me). Then I asked for a 18 hole rain check. This jackass tells me the Marshall saw you on #7 I'll give you a 9 hole, I was like are you kidding me I was sitting in a cart with my sock off. I told him to just keep the damn thing but give me the GM number (Troy Miller) now the Assistant Pro was named Nick Miller not sure if they are related. Anyway I emailed the GM and he got back to me the very next day. He apologized for the way I was treated and I told him I'm not looking to sue you I just want my round replaced. Well needless to say he did in a very professional manner. He also told me he just got his job there 3 months ago and was once again very sorry for the way his staff treated me. Troy seems to be a class act and I'm sure the course will do just fine with this man running things. By the way the course was in great shape, I will say the greens were running slow but we did just have rain. I'm so glad we got this resolved because this is my favorite course in Maryland this side of the bay (including Bulle Rock).

This place is quickly becoming one of my favorite places to play in the Baltimore area (within 1 hour). At this point and having played both Lake Presidential & Bulle Rock twice in the past month I give the nod to Lake Presidential. I don't care for the mindless bird brain working in the restaurant who twice now has taken 20 minutes to get me a Gatorade & hot dog with no one else waiting. Anyway the course is in great shape aerated not too long ago you can hardly tell. This course in the nest two weeks will be in prime shape. If they had better rates they would kill there. The course is tough but if your on you can score well because you can get some favorable rolls. If you have not played here then spend the extra $30 and give it a shot you will enjoy it very much. The staff is very friendly and helpful and they have a decent driving range there too.

They just aerated the course so the greens are very slow. The course looks to me like it will be in the best shape it has ever been in come mid April. I always like the views there but I thought the course was just ok. Now the course is nice but the views are going away with all the houses going up. I also played with someone who lives there and he said they are only 1/3 of the way there. The other problem is the noise with the construction. Anyway give this course another month and jump all over it. This place gets hacked up for some reason quick so don't wait too long.

Fairways and greens were aerated, so I've rated the course below average. A more fair price would have been $39 during a weekday instead of $49, but we booked online and didn't realize they had aerated. Tee boxes and bunkers in good shape, but don't expect much for another two weeks or so due to the aeration. Like some other golfers' comments, nice course but nothing special--there are nicer courses in MD and NoVA with fairer pricing. Good food, but also pricey.

It was our groups first time playing at this Course. The cost to play at this course is certainly not cheap, so I want to put that out first. Checked in and paid for our round, was greeted outside by the starter who handed us, a Xerox Copy of a Scrore Card. I asked him what was with the Paper Card? He said the USGA was looking over the course and certain changes would be made, so they are reprinting new cards. Regardless of Paper or regular Score Card, get a Yardage Book. It will certainly help you in your round. So many hidden things around this course. The course is beautiful and the fairways and green are in amazing shape. We played from the Black Tees, and figured out quickly some of the carries over water and ravines are very long, but it made things challenging. Our overall experience was great. The Club house was another positive experience. They Bevarage Cart girl was great.. They have everything on the cart.
Cons: For such an expensive course, we did see a portable bathroom located on the backside. On the 9th if you wanted something to eat, you could text your order in? Blind shot on the 3rd Hole - It would be wise the course puts some sort of warning device up, for people teeing off on the 3rd. We did not see the group in front of us and we hit our tee shots. When we traveled over the hill, the group in the front was looking back at us, and said several of our balls rolled up near them.

Played Lake Presidential again for $99 on a weekday. I am not sure where some of the players that reviewed the course play, but Lake Pres does not compare to the premium courses around DC area such as Raspberry Falls, Stonewall, Laurel Hills, and Westfield. I can play these courses for less but with much better greens and layout. Lake Pres has the worse finishing holes 9th and 18th. Course lacks definition and greens are a real disappointment. Greens are so slow, we need to layup on a 10 foot putt (sarcasm). If I’m paying premium fees, I expect premium greens not some shag carpet to putt on.

I only play courses with fast green and the premium courses I mentioned above are my regular courses. If given the choice to play at Lake Pres for $45, I’ll pass.

Over all, course is over rated and overpriced. Food was pretty good.

When you arrive at this course you know you are in for something spectacular. Lake Presidential is all you can ask for and more. Right before we teed off the starter said, "this is a big boy's course" and he was not kidding. Each hole presents a new challenge, no two holes are even close to similar and the scenery is just spectacular throughout. You can clearly tell the designers of this course had a true vision.

Now on to the conditions - when many of the courses around the area have suffered from the heat, there were no signs of stress anywhere on the course. From the flat perfectly groomed tee boxes to the greens there was barely a blade out of place. This was my first time at Lake Presidential and it will surely not be my last.

This is a nice course. It is tough. We started on the 10th and right off the bat I was in 10 inch rough on the face of a fairway bunker and had to pitch out. It is set up nicely though. The greens have a lot of slope and are tiered with runoff areas. The rough is thick and uniform. A lot of holes require strategy. Be ready to pull an iron off the tee on some par 4's to avoid trouble and prepare to be tested.

Played Lake Presidential on 8/08/08 after assurances from Ann Ramos (Golf and Event Administrator) that the course was in great shape. I drove over 1 hour in rush hour traffic and paid the $100 greens fee. The club house was beautiful and the staff very cordial and accommodating. The practice range was real grass and very lush. The course, however, was another matter. While the course is beautiful, it is not quite ready for play. Many of the fairways on the front nine were saturated with water…it seems to be due to a severe drainage problem. The back nine fairways were in much better shape. However, while there was only one problem green on the front side (don’t remember which one), all but 2 of the greens (11 & 18) on the back nine were in terrible shape….where the grass was alive it was long and shaggy and many had areas of dead grass or recent large patches. Tee boxes were all in pretty good shape but tee marker placement was erratic…on some tee boxes the back tees were on the championship box and on others they were either on the back or middle boxes. I played with a friend and he had the same opinions as me. Overall, wait at least a year and maybe then your'll get your money’s worth.

Had played it about 3 weeks ago and it was in much better shape. Workers on the course keep driving as you are hitting or putting. A marshal would ride out to see where we were when approaching 8 & 9 and 18. Greens are inconsistent and some are burnt out already. Save your $$$$$$

This is a nice course. Every avid golfer should give it a try. It is unlike any other I've played around here. Buy the $8 layout booklet before you play the first time, because there is a lot of blind shots and blind trouble. There is lots of water, and a lot of shaved runoff areas around the greens. It is a beautiful layout and the staff was very helpful and nice. All the tees weren't in play yet, but I believe 3 of five were in play on all the holes. The teeing ground grass was a little long, but the fairways and greens were great.

Just opened last month. Fantastic layout - not one weak hole. Good decision by management to wait until this year to open it. Best green surrounds in the area. If you're not on the green you're in a trap or a collection area twenty yards from it. Will be among the best in the area. Doesn't need to mature much more.
