Maplewood Golf Course of Renton, WA

This is a great course complete with several downhill tee shots and a few uphill shots to elevated greens. The generous tree lined fairways will accept a straight drive but are ready to penalize wayward shots. The lies are tight but not penal for those who have a tendency to hit the ball fat. Bunkers are strategically placed; the sand is fluffy and consistent. My favorites were #6, a short par 3 over a pond, and #15 a par 5 with a small green surrounded by tall trees. The staff was friendly and the cart girl came around often. They have a great restaurant and bar as well as a double decker driving range. Great muni run by the city of Renton.

Chambers Bay of University Place, WA

I played Chambers Bay so I could say I did. Although pricey, it's worth it. Made out of an old gravel pit, the whole course is in a bowl. It's almost like an amphi-theater. It's amazing how sound carries (be careful how you express verbal negative. Fairways are generous, lies are TIGHT, yet there's more grass on them than at Bandon Dunes. Strategic play is a must, and even then, the undulations can wreak havoc with where you end up. Head Pro Brent Zepp, and all the employees are helpful and friendly. I'd check in at least 45 minutes before your tee time. A shuttle takes you to the driving range and then to the starter shack. There is a snack bar for drinks that is strategically located. Be prepared to walk. No carts. The course is not for the faint of heart. I was pretty tired at the end, even with a caddy carrying my bag. The experience was fun. The course kicked my ass, but score was the least of my goals. When they say you can putt from 150 yards, it's true.

Banks Lake Golf and Country Club of Electric City, WA

Stopped by the course on my way through to Seattle. Too hot to play, but looked around a bit. Looks like a good course to take in. Worth stopping over when traveling through. Fairways a green. Undulating track. Greens are in good shape. Cute course. Casual atmosphere. Apparently had financial troubles in the past, and all work is done by volunteers. They do a good job.

Wine Valley Golf Club of Walla Walla, WA

I played this course once before. Loved it each time. Don't get out to Eastern Washington very often, but when I do, Wine Valley is on my must do list. The fairways are wide, smooth and generous. The greens are fast, firm and true. They now have GPS systems on the carts for easy yardage read out. The track is undulating, and so are the greens. Sometimes you have to putt away from the cup to get it to end up at the hole. Drives roll out well, and hazards, although many, are not a hinderance to play if you plan your shots and hit where you aim. Even miss hits have a tendency to turn out ok.
I will be back again.

Alta Lake Golf Resort of Pateros, WA

Due to the devastating wild fires in the region, Alta Lake is currently closed, for the season most likely. LocalGolfer.com wishes Alta Lake a speedy recovery and are saddened by the loss to the surrounding community. We have rated the course well because of its quality play and facilities before the fire.
Here is a quote from the owners on the web site:
"Wild Fire Update (Course and Motel Closed):
Early Friday morning (July 18th) the wild fires in the Methow Valley ripped through the Alta Lake community destroying many of the homes, along with our own, and the pro shop and our equipment/cart storage shed. The motel remains standing in good shape and the golf course is in good condition as well. Power is out and likely to remain that way for some time. Considering all of this, the resort is closed with an uncertain re-opening date this year."

One of the most scenic golf courses I have ever played. The course lays in the hilltops of an old coal mine and boosts breathtaking views of Lake Washington, Mt. Rainier, and the Seattle skyline. It is a premier golf course all around, from the staff to the conditions of the course. Range balls are included in the tee time, rental club sets cost $55, the putting area was really cool, they had six individual putting greens which had hazards almost like a putt putt golf course, never seen anything like it (I should have taken a picture). Unfortunately, it started pouring after completing the eighth hole, not surprising since we were in Seattle, so we went up to the pro shop and they refunded us for the entire round! Pretty unbelievable customer service!!

Jefferson Park, just three miles outside of downtown Seattle, is a typical municipal golf course that you will find in any city. The course overall is in decent shape, greens were good and rolled true, fairways are a bit choppy, and the tee boxes were beaten up a bit. Paying $49 including cart for this course at 3:45PM seemed a bit high, however there isn't much to choose from in the area. With that said we did finish 18 in 2:45 (two-some) which I can't complain about too much. One last note, if you are a lefty and you need to rent clubs, this is not the place to do so, they only have four irons in the set.

Hartwood Golf Course of Brush Prairie, WA

My dad, mom, brother and sister took my wife and I to this course today. My wife and I are new to the sport but were very excited to be there. My dad, mom and sister teed off ahead of us and my wife, brother and I were the next group to tee off. It was finally our turn ton the tee. We were at the starting spot when the older senior man who works behind the counter came out and told us we were going to slow and needed to move faster. OK. We moved on. We got to the 3rd hole when he came over to us again caring his golf club and said we were still going to slow, he said we need to break protocol and just hit the ball. Now i a bit frustrated. We move on. We caught up with mom and dad at the 5th hole. We were all waiting together for the people in front of us to finish up so we could move forward. HERE HE COMES AGAIN! This time he started off by saying "people that hold things up give the course a reputation of being a slow course". Kind of hard to go forward when the people in front of you are still not done? The people in front of us got done and mom & dad and their group moved on. We were waiting for them to clear the next green and this guy stared in on us to hit the ball. My wife and sister were now together in front of my group and about two thirds of the way to the green. This guy is now telling me to just hit the ball. He says "there is no way you can hit the ball that far". He was most likely correct but i was not going to take the chance. I got mad and left. Dad stepped up and hit the ball into the next green. Good thing he was more patient than me. The rest of my group finished. My dad, brother and sister play all the time. They all told me that they had never had this kind of experience at a golf course before.

This would have been a great experience if it had not been for the man with white hair chasing us around the course.
