Great layout that was a playable challenge.

We played post several days of rainfall. Course was still a bit wet, but great condition otherwise. A great deal of elevation changes, some water, and natural grasses throughout.

Prairie Highlands was much better than anticipated.

Play early, if you want to get through in four hours. Course backs up quickly as the prices drop throughout the day.

The staff was very nice. I walked up, told the man I had a tee time and he had me ready to go in almost no time.

This course was beautiful. They did a good job of making you forget that you were in the middle of Lawrence. We went when the leaves were changing and starting to fall which added to its charm.

Not the hardest course in the area, but definitely not the easiest. There wasn't too many sand traps and only one or two holes where water could mess you up.

The course was well maintained. You could tell that alvamar really cared about their course.

Gardner Golf Course of Gardner, KS

The staff seemed a bit "low tech". They spent 20 minutes trying to charge me and my friend for 18 holes that we reserved a tee time for. At one point between two of them they got the total price up to $120. After they got someone who new how to work the machine they wanted to charge me $25 dollars to play and an extra $20 dollars for a cart, even though the price online included a cart. We finally figured it out. The staff wasn't trying to be sneaky, they were just a bit ignorant.

The "Driving range" is set between three holes. If you slice your ball to the right off of the first hole, just say goodbye. If you slice your ball to the right on the second hole, start crying because its gone. If you slice your ball to the right on your second shot of the ninth hole, its time to take some lessons...and you lost another ball. You also have to be on the lookout on hole 9 because there are some people on the driving range just learning to golf, and their aim isn't up to par.

The fairways are nice and wide. My issue with them is how high they are cut and they are usually covered in weeds. Beginners will complain that they lose sight of the fairways on four or five holes, but they are nice and forgiving nonetheless.

The greens are pretty good. People in Gardner don't like fixing divots apparently, but I'm not putting that on the course.

Overall its a fairly easy course. There is almost no sand at all, which beginning golfers love. The only hole with significant water is the hole that is pictured on their website, so don't let that picture deter you if you have hydrophobia.

The value is ok. Its cheap, but the course reflects that. This is a beginner course in my opinion. I would rate its difficulty about the same as Minor Park, but without a crowd and for a cheaper price.

This course is fairly nice for a small town golf course. You can find daily deals to play for between $8-$30. If you are in the KC area be sure to hit this place up.

This course has improved noticeably since Troon assumed management. The greens have to be the fastest in the KC area. Collection areas around the greens require an accurate short game. It's a hoot!

In my opinion this is the most scenic public course in Kansas. Carved out of the Flint Hills, it has many elevated tees and greens. I make the 2+ hour drive at least 3 times a year. It's well worth it.

Gardner Golf Course of Gardner, KS

The Gardner Golf Course is great if you're a hacker like I am. I'm still not very good at golf, and Gardner is the kind of place that you can go to get better.

This course is not worth the standard weekend rate. The regular rate is $35 for the weekends, but the course is not as good as the other local courses, which cost the same amount.

The fairways are open, and the greens are not very challenging.

The best thing about the course is the relaxed atmosphere. You aren't being rushed by a marshall on the tee box, and the wide fairways make it easy to find your ball, even when I slice it super far right. It is important to pay attention while walking up the 18th fairway. The driving range is to the right of the 18th fairway, and I was nearly hit by a ball. That probably would have ruined the day.

Four Oaks Golf Course of Pittsburg, KS

Four Oaks Golf Course is an average course for the Pittsburg KS area. It is open to the public and I found the green fees to be reasonable. The staff is OK but sometimes if there is not enough golfers they will close up early, which can be annoying. The greens are quite nice and have some slopes to them. Fairways seem to always stay green however tee boxes are hit and miss. Few water hazards and only a couple sandtraps to be found. Sand in the bunkers is more gravel then sand. All in all an average course but most typically the one I go to.

The course was amazing and green. All the employees that worked there were very nice and helpful. The drinks and food are decent price and there is also several cart girls driving around selling snacks, balls, beer and water. There are several challenging holes that even Tiger Woods would need severe concentration. This course is a delight to go play and always makes the perfect fathers day gift.

I personally love this course & although choices are somewhat limited, I will choose this course hands down each time simply because it's a remote location with beautiful scenery. Greens always run nicely & overall the course is pretty well kept.
